gentle iyengar and yoga for scoliosis

Gentle Iyengar and Yoga for Scoliosis is a hybrid of two complimentary Yoga approaches, Iyengar Yoga and Yoga for Scoliosis. It moves at a slower pace to allow for functional and/or therapeutic variations, including detailed instruction for students working with scoliosis.   The class will incorporate active poses to build strength and flexibility, as well as restorative poses to balance the nervous system and end with a sense of harmony.

“Iyengar Yoga” is the system of yoga created and developed by Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar.  It is based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga, as detailed in the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali.  Iyengar Yoga is accessible to students of all ages and all body types. Its focus on precision, timing, sequencing, and the use of props helps the practitioner develop awareness in any asana. With its comprehensive teacher training and certification process, you can find Iyengar teachers around the world. You can learn more about Iyengar Yoga here.

Robin was introduced to Yoga for Scoliosis during her first teacher training in 2004.  It sparked a long-time interest in how yoga practice could help manage the progression and discomfort of her own curves, as well as her students’.  She is a Yoga for Scoliosis Trainer under the guidance of Senior Iyengar Teacher, Elise Browning Miller.  For more information about Robin’s journey, please click here
