Fall Safety with Clare Ellison, OT

  • Evolition, LLC, c/o Akasha Collective 5810 West 38th Avenue Suite 3 Wheat Ridge, CO, 80212 United States (map)

Join us for this informative and innovative workshop with a hospital-based Occupational Therapist who works with falls and their consequences on a regular basis. Yes, there are many negative associations with falls and we wish to avoid them. AND they are normal parts of life that almost all of us will experience at one time or another.

This workshop will take holistic look at falling. How to prevent it and what to do if you’ve fallen. We seek to normalize falls as a part of aging, not to be feared or ashamed of, but something that we can work with to come back stronger.

Participants in this class will need to be able to traverse a flight of stairs, remove their shoes, and get onto and off of the floor (using a chair to assist is fine). This class is not appropriate for those unable to move well independently.

$45 per person.

THERE ARE TWO SESSIONS OF THIS WORKSHOP. THE FIRST SESSION, 10:30AM-NOON IS NOW FULL. WE ARE NOW ENROLLING A SECOND SESSION, 1:30-3PM.

Clare Ellison, OTR/L, OTD

Clare has been an Occupational Therapist for six years.  She was drawn to the holistic nature of OT and its focus on the whole person, not just the ailment.  Clare views each patient through many lenses (biological, psychological, and social), understanding that there is always more to a person than their current situation.

In her work with patients and their families, Clare has seen many different causes, outcomes, and reactions pertaining to falls. Falls are common occurrences, but taking steps to mitigate the outcomes is key.  The goals of Clare’s class are to accept that falls happen, learn how to prevent falls as best you can, and know what to do in the moment.  A fall doesn’t have to spell disaster.

Clare is a Colorado native, currently living in Fort Collins.  Outside of work, she spends her time adventuring with her husband and 2 boys (13 and 7), refinishing furniture, and enjoying a cup of tea with a good book and her two cats.
